James F. Hopkins, Professor of Composition at the University of Southern California, studied composition with Halsey Stevens,
Quincy Porter and Edward T. Cone. He received his Bachelor's degree from USC, Master of Music from Yale University and Ph.D. from Princeton
University. His compositions have been performed by the National Symphony, Denver Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony,
Pacific Symphony, Fine Arts Quartet, the Western Arts Trio and Washington Choral Society. He has received commissions from the National
Endowment for the Arts, Pasadena Chamber Orchestra, California Arts Commission, American Guild of Organists and USC.
Dr. Hopkins has participated in recordings by the Chicago Brass Quintet, Western Arts Trio, American Repertory Singers, Pacific Symphony and
Pacific Chorale, where he was composer-in-residence from 1996 to 1998.
